Petra Rivera

Petra Rivera's Obituary Petra Rivera, 90 years young, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, January 26th, 2022 surrounded by her daughter Yvette. She was born in Puerto Rico to Pedro Rodriguez and Mariana Coraliz, but lived most of her adult life in New York City and Bronx, NY. She and her then husband Manny moved to Florida in 2003. Petra's life was a good one, but not always an easy one. She was widowed at 37 and had 2 children, Yvette and Angel to raise as a single parent. It was often a challenge, but a challenge that she rose to time and time again. Petra was very proud of her children, as they were of her. Petra worked at the US Postal Service for 25 years. At the time of her retirement she had risen to the position of EEO Counselor, and was very grateful for the many opportunities afforded her throughout the years. Petra was not tall in stature but she was definitely a force to be reckon with in so many other ways. Petra stood at her tallest in the kitchen where she was an absolute GIANT. The kitchen was truly her happy place, and over the years she cooked and shared many meals with family and friends. Her contagious laugh along with her quick and biting wit were often the life of the party as well. For all these reasons and more, we will all miss not sharing one last gathering around her table. Petra was predeceased by her husbands Angel and Manny, and by her son Angel. She is survived by her daughter Yvette and grandson Antonio, but will live in our hearts forever. Petra's remains will be cremated privately,therefore, in lieu of flowers any small donation to Suncoast Hospice of Palm Harbor would be a lovely gesture in her name. They were wonderful at ensuring that she was at peace while at home, and very helpful to her daughter as well.
