Peter Harry Fertig, 81, passed away on January 30, 2022 at his home in Dunedin, FL. Born and raised in New York, Peter moved to Locust Grove, VA in 1984, where he continued his successful 40-year career in the banking industry until his retirement in 2000. He was active in his community, serving as a lifetime member of the Lake of the Woods Volunteer Fire and Rescue, a volunteer with the Mary Washington Hospital Auxiliary, and as a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Peter enjoyed woodworking, square dancing, and traveling with family and friends. In 2011, Peter moved to Dunedin, FL, where he enjoyed the warmer climate and living closer to his youngest grandchildren. Peter leaves behind his loving wife of 64 years, Rita Fertig, their two daughters, Dorothy Massimino (Dave) and Joanie Griffiths (Doug), their son, Peter Fertig (Sara), 14 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, three brothers, Robert Fertig, William Kuhn (Nancy), and Robert Kuhn (Muriel), and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his father, Frederick Fertig, his mother, Dorothy Kuhn, his step-father, Wilbur Kuhn, his sister-in-law, Marilyn Fertig, and two great-granddaughters, Hannah Peabody and Laurel Peabody. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at Curlew Hills Memory Gardens in Palm Harbor, FL on Sunday, February 6th from 4 – 6 PM. A mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Dunedin, FL on Monday, February 7th at 10 AM. An internment ceremony at Curlew Hills Memory Gardens will be held at a later date.
