Karen K. Somers

Karen Somers, 77, passed away on Saturday , March 19, 2022. Karen lived in Clearwater, Florida. She was born in Sandwich, IL on November 15, 1944, the daughter of Don and Mary Ayers. Karen grew up in Mason City, IA. She graduated from Hamilton Business College. She began her career as an administrative secretary and advanced rapidly in responsibilities and position for the American Cancer Society in Iowa. In 1985 she moved to Florida and continued working for ACS. She retired as the Regional Vice President for the Southwest Region. She loved her work at ACS and the positive contribution it made to help those afflicted with cancer. In all she spent over 40 years in selfless service to ACS. When she moved to Clearwater, Florida in 1985, she married Dennis Somers. Karen enjoyed church, cards, bunko, travel, social events with friends, family gatherings, and active involvement in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Ashton, great-grand child, came to live with them when he was three weeks old. He was the love of her life and kept her going. Ashton will really miss her. Karen is survived by sister Mary; daughters: Sherrie and Leslie; sons: Mike, Donnie, and Matt; grandchildren: Jonathan, Nicole, Trevor, Hannah, Noah, Bridget, Aerial, Jade, Chelsea, Dallas, Brandon, Kaitlyn, Devinne, and Hailey; along with many great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society. Memorial service will be held at Bethel Lutheran Church, 3166 McMullen Booth Rd, Clearwater, Florida, 33761 on Thursday, March 24 at 11 a.m.
