Karen Lee Guth, 67 years of age, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 17, 2020. “Karebear” as she was known to her friends was a retired Middle School Language Arts Teacher, retiring from Seven Springs Middle School in 2016, and a resident of New Port Richey, FL. She had taught for 39 years at various schools in Virginia and Florida. Karen was born September 27, 1953 in Erie, Pennsylvania. She was the youngest of two children and was preceded in death by her father, Charles H. Guth in 2013. She is survived by her mother, Norma Guth, brother Charles Guth, sister-in-law Andrea Berry-Guth, nephew Noah Guth, niece Kristin Griffith, and Great Nephew Grant Lilly. Surviving family members also include Shay, Shade, Tsouris, Metzgar, and Degoutrie. Nephew Noah was her pride and joy. Karen was a graduate of Strong Vincent High School, Class of 1971, in Erie, PA; she continued her education attending Wooster in Vienna in 1972, and earning a Bachelor of Arts at Mercyhurst College in 1976 and a Master of Science in Education at Old Dominion University in 1985. She grew up as a Methodist at Kingsley UMC in Erie, PA, where she was active in Youth Fellowship. In later years she attended Palm Harbor United Methodist Church and most recently Hope United Methodist Church. Karen is best remembered for her love of family, friends and birds (especially Peri, her Quaker Parrot). She was a loving and caring person with a child-like spirit, who enjoyed spending time with family. Almost every Sunday you could find her with the family sharing in a meal and then playing board games, with her recent favorite being Yamslam. She also loved picnics, reading, taking pictures, cruising and traveling with her family; she was a collector of movies, music and memorabilia. After retirement, Karen enjoyed attending a water aerobics class at the YMCA and a scrapbooking club. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an International Society for Key Women Educators. The Gathering of Family and Friends of Karen will be at Curlew Hills Funeral Home in Palm Harbor, FL, on Saturday, November 28th 1:00-2:00 PM (EST), with the Celebration of Life immediately following at 2:00 PM (EST).
