    Joyce Ellen Adamson

    May 24, 1932 - January 28, 2021

On Thursday, January 28, 2021, Joyce Ellen Parker Adamson, loving and devoted wife and mother of four children, passed away at the age of 88, and went to be with her Lord and Savior. Joyce was born on May 24th, 1932, in Middleton, Nova Scotia, Canada, to Claude Edwin Parker and Leah Phinney Parker. She enjoyed playing tennis and hockey and having fun with her girlfriends. After graduating from Middleton High School, she met and fell in love with Robert "Bob" Samuel Adamson, from Gagetown, New Brunswick, Canada. Bob met and courted Joyce while working in Civil Engineering and surveying a road across Nova Scotia, where Joyce's relatives owned a boarding house. They enjoyed riding his Indian motorcycle and playing tennis together, while Joyce received a 2 year degree in business college. Joyce and Bob got married in 1952 and moved to Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, just north of Halifax, and had their four children, David, Susan, Kim, and Linda. After the arrival of their 4th child, they moved to Boston, then to Georgia, for the health of their daughter Linda, and for a 2 year project where Bob was on the engineering team that built a dam on the Chattahoochee River and Joyce was a homemaker, enjoying raising the children, always setting a good example and providing a loving home. They then moved to Dunedin, FL, in 1961, and after the four children were in public school, Joyce entered full time work in various office positions in her sought after career in the medical field. Joyce worked in the prominent offices of Dr. Charles Dykstra ENT for 13 years and then also for Dr. James Lowrey, Ophthalmologist, for 18 years. She had a very strong work ethic and was a pleasant and devoted employee. Joyce was a loving caregiver to her husband Bob during his 4 years with cancer and also to her Great Aunt Evelyn Cunningham for many years. In retirement, Joyce enjoyed some part-time work in the local elementary schools where she loved helping children and she also volunteered at her local church, St. Andrews Presbyterian, where she and Linda were members and attended the traditional services. Also in retirement, she was able to seasonally go back to her beloved Nova Scotia and visit family and friends each year. Joyce is survived by her daughters Susan Adamson Manter and husband, Thomas Manter, Lea Kim Adamson Nelson and husband, Douglas Nelson, Linda Joy Adamson Daniel and Martha Clarke Adamson, daughter-in-law. She was loved by her six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband, Bob, 1997, and her son, David, 1999, her mother Leah and father Claude, and her brothers, Ron and Merv. Her daughters, Linda, Kim, and Susan, were blessed to celebrate Joyce's life with her, in Dunedin, before she passed. Joyce will be greatly missed by those she leaves behind, but is now in glory, in the loving arms of Bob and David and all the family and friends that went before her. In lieu of flowers please donate to American Heart Association.
