John M. Smith, peacefully passed on March 28, 2022 in Dunedin, FL. He was born on April 1 4, 1941, in Tunnelton, Indiana, the son of John Russell Smith and Mabel Beasley. John was born and raised on the family’s farm and was no stranger to hard work and its rewards. His career was in national sales and marketing. With his last job he assisted with the initial public stock offering at the New York Stock Exchange. This was his proudest moment of his career. He retired in November 2008. After retirement, John could be found reading, gardening, collecting antiques and engaging in household projects. His two prized collections included arrowheads he found as a child in the fields of Indiana and his extensive cast iron collection. John was also known to keep fresh vegetables on hand from the garden for family dinners, especially radishes. He was also a skilled craftsman who could be found working in his garage on any number of household improvement projects. From building a kitty condo to the full construction of Bear Crossing. Sarah Ellen’s playhouse/picnic table with a fort on top and a winding tube slide. Surviving family is his wife Margaret Smith, his daughters, Kim Walden, Thomasville, GA and granddaughter, Jules NeSmith, Gainesville FL, Anne Smith, her husband, Herb Hoehn and grandchildren, Eadlin and Vaughn, Plano, TX, Sarah Ellen Smith of San Francisco, CA, Tiffany Wind, and granddaughters Leah and Avery of Palm Harbor, FL, and Courtney Keeter and grandsons, Bryson, Liam and Landon Keeter of Holiday, FL; in addition to countless other loving family members and friends. He was predeceased by his parents and sisters, Ellen Haws and Dorothy Walton, brother Burrell Smith, and nephew John Kennedy Smith. Celebration of John’s life will be held at 7pm EST on Thursday, April 14, 2022 over Zoom. Please email [email protected] for link to join.
