George Joseph Schillinger Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

George Schillinger, 79 of Palm Harbor, Fl passed away on July 19, 2022 after a short battle with cancer. George was born in Cohoes, NY to Joseph J. Schillinger and Emilie Dubois. After George graduated from Watervliet High School in 1962, he served in the United States Navy (1962-1964). He then started a career as a chemical operator at Sterling Winthrop in Rensselaer, NY. In 2005, George retired and spent his time working seasonally at the Saratoga Race Track and enjoying Saratoga Lake in NY in the summer and Florida in the winter. George’s interest was in cars. He loved looking at classic cars and would often travel to car shows. His favorite car being his 1957, white/blue Ford. George loved his cats, Sweetie Pie and Max, talking about his Navy days, watching sports (Dallas Cowboys, and Tampa Bay Rays). He grew up a Brooklyn Dodgers fan. Gil Hodges and Duke Snyder were his favorite players. He loved classic cars, and spending time with his family and friends. The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to George. He loved a quiet evening with friends on his porch in Palm Harbor, FL. or searching for a good deal at a garage sale. George often explored the local beaches and found beauty in the beautiful sunsets. His pleasant personality and smile was contagious to everyone he met. George was active in The Village of Tarpon Springs. George was also a member of the Watervliet Elks for many years. Leading up to his passing he was surrounded by his partner, daughters, son in laws, grandsons, and friends. Everyone George knew cherished his impact on their lives, through his love, friendship, mentorship, or his crazy humor. George is survived by his partner Cheryl O’ Brien (Palm Harbor, FL) of 35 years, his former wife Patricia Langworthy (Alan), Cohoes, NY and their 2 daughters Susan Logan (Tom), Orlando, Fl. and Kim Ragosta (Tim), Valatie, NY. He is survived by his 3 grandsons, Andrew Ragosta, Matthew Ragosta, and David Logan. He is also survived by his former wife, Gail Schillinger, and son, Jeffrey Schillinger. George is predeceased by his sister Alice Bitz, 4 half-sisters, Margorie Schramek, Nan Inglis, Marion Bernard, and “Sister Rose” Joan Miriam CSJ, of St. Joseph Provincial House of Latham and 3 half-brothers James, Joseph, and Thomas Schillinger. Celebration of Life Services will take place at a later time to be determined by the family.
