February 26, 1936 - January 16, 2021
Faye K. Vlahos, age 84, passed peacefully in her sleep into the Lord’s hands. She was born in the village of Massari on the island of Rhodes, Greece to Demetrios and Elena Koutris. At the age of 12 she came to live with her aunt and uncle in America, painfully leaving behind her parents and five siblings. She lived in Baltimore, then Washington, D.C where she graduated high school and attended American University. Faye never forgot her roots or family, and once reaching the age of majority, sponsored each of her siblings to immigrate to America to enjoy a better life. She worked as a legal secretary until she met her husband to be, Thomas Vlahos. They married in 1961 and lived in the Maryland suburbs of D.C. raising three children. Faye worked for years at the department of Health and Human Services in Bethesda, MD. She and Tom moved to Florida in 2002 and lived in Palm Harbor. Faye was very active at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Clearwater, especially in the outreach ministries of the Ladies Philoptochos. She co-founded a ministry to feed the homeless, and actively participated in visitations to those in nursing homes and shut-ins. She was an amazing cook and even better baker, specializing in the most delectable Greek pastries. Faye was also a pivotal member of a group of fun loving card playing widows affectionately known by all as the Golden Girls. She was a warm, tender, loving mother and grandmother. Faye was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Tom, and all her siblings. She is survived by her sons, Dr. Theodore P. Vlahos (Filitsa), Stephen J. Vlahos (Evdoxia), and daughter Karen, as well as grandchildren Michael, Korina, and Thomas Vlahos, and multiple nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church Iconography fund.
