September 5, 1937 - October 13, 2021
Our dad passed away on October 13, 2021 and the world lost a great one — a kind, loving, fun and giving man who brightened every room he entered. Edwin Maurice Sewell was 84 of Clearwater, FL. Mourning his loss are his wife of 64 years, Margaret, his six children, Jimmy, Bobby, Susie, Richie, Kathy and Tommy, his ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Ed and Margaret also fostered and cared for countless children, all of whom left their home a little stronger and wi th the knowledge that someone loved for them. Ed was born in Jamaica, NY. He met the love of his life there and they were married in 1957. Ed lived a life of selfless service. He was a proud 20 year veteran of the New York City Police Department. The family moved to Clifton Park, NY in 1981 where he served as Chief of Investigations for NY State Department of Corrections. He retired in 2000 and moved with his wife to sunny Clearwater, FL. Ed served as the Treasurer for Knights of Columbus and was involved in both The American Legion and VFW. He also loved volunteering providing communion at Morton Plant Hospital through St. Cecelia Catholic Church. Ed stands in our hearts as a reminder of strength, love and compassion. He was one-of-a-kind and though we will mourn his loss daily, we have faith that we will be reunited with his big laugh, his big smile and his big heart in time. If you’d like to celebrate his life and say a final farewell, we will all gather together on October 18th at Curlew Hills Memorial Gardens Palm Harbor from 10:30-12:00pm. Funeral service will follow at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Clearwater at 1:30pm. Please no flowers. Seriously. Donate to a charity. Donate to yourselves. Dad would want it that way.
