Edwin "Ed" Patrick McCarroll Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Edwin (“Ed”) Patrick McCarroll, 83, passed away suddenly at his home in Holiday, Florida on May 9, 2022. Born in Glasgow, Scotland on July 11, 1938, he was the son of Patrick and Bridget McCarroll. Ed proudly served in the British Royal Air Force before immigrating to the United States in the early 1960s. He attended Alfred University in New York and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Ceramic Engineering. He pursued that career for many years with the Libbey Owens Ford Company in Toledo, Ohio. Ed finished his career as a Vice President of the Medical College of Ohio, during which time he earned a master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Toledo. Ed is survived by the love of his life and wife of 57 years Theresa (Fiscina) McCarroll. He also leaves behind his devoted children Judy McCarroll Galeano (Michael) and Stephen McCarroll, along with his grandson Marcus, brother Lawrence, and 13 nieces and nephews. Ed is preceded in death by his parents and sisters Evelyn, Patricia, and Veronica. His love of soccer began as a youth in Scotland, where he eventually grew to play in highly competitive semi-pro leagues. He continued his love of the game playing in (and helping operate) leagues in the U.S. even into his ‘50s. Over time, he learned and excelled at golf and then eventually added tennis to his repertoire, playing both into his ‘80s. Ed had a passion for British sports cars. He bought them, he restored, them, and he loved to drive them. He formed a driving club in Toledo, Ohio and after moving to Florida joined and was active in the Florida Suncoast MG Car Club. He also had a passion for speed. In his ‘60s and ‘70s, Ed drove race cars at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, the Sebring International Speedway, and the Mario Andretti Racing Experience. Ed’s wit was as sharp as his intellect, and his innate sense of curiosity kept him young in heart and spirit all his life. He was a fiery debater on meaningful topics, but always managed to find the lighter side of any situation (often punctuated with a great one liner). Ed’s softer side was most evident when it came to animals, especially his canine companions Tammy and Buckwheat, as well as his “grandson” Bo. He was loyal to his adopted country but equally proud of his Scottish roots and enjoyed being an active member of Clan MacDonald. His greatest sources of strength were his loving wife Terry and his steadfast faith as a lifelong Catholic. Most recently, Ed was a parishioner at both St. Vincent de Paul in Holiday and St. Michael the Arch Angel in Clearwater. A funeral mass will be held Saturday May 28th, at 11:00 AM, at St. Michael the Arch Angel Church (2281 State Road 580, Clearwater). An internment ceremony will immediately follow at Curlew Hills Memory Gardens (1750 Curlew Rd. in Palm Harbor) and reception at Bon Appetit (148 Marina Plaza, Dunedin, FL) .
