David Faist Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

David O. Faist, of Henagar, Alabama and Oldsmar, Florida died peacefully in hospice care, from Covid complications at the age of 87 on January 21, 2022. He was predeceased by his wife Betty Sue Elliott Faist. He was the oldest son of Francis and Walter Faist. He enjoyed his childhood in Barrington, New Hampshire with his sister Martha Swain and brother Herbert Faist. After high school, David served in the United States Army in Korea. When he returned to New Hampshire he attended UNH and the ROTC program. Upon graduation he was commissioned as an officer in the US Army and continued to serve his country for his entire career. During his many years of duty he served 3 tours in Vietnam, and in numerous assignments including the 101st Airborne, the Army Rangers and as a Green Beret in the 1st Special Forces. David’s two loves in life were the army and farming. He had been noted as saying “I spent my entire life no more than 2 miles from a cow turd.” After retiring from the Army he enjoyed his second career raising prize winning Black Angus cattle, as well as building farms in both Defuniak Springs, FL and Henagar, AL. He leaves behind three children James and wife Paula, Debi Cossentino and husband Wayne, Steve and wife Susan, one stepson Marty and wife Kathy, six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, his sister, brother and many nieces and nephews. Memorial services with a military honor guard, will be private on January 27,2022 at Curlew Hill Memorial Gardens. The memorial will be livestreamed beginning at 10:45 am. It will be viewable for the following 90 days.
